Studio Artist
As a Studio Artist at HBA Art, you’ll develop high‑quality artworks and artwork packages that elevate interior and architectural narratives across hospitality, commercial, and residential projects. You’ll translate briefs and curatorial direction into clear, compelling artworks—grounded in fine‑art practice, strong material sensibility, and excellent presentation skills—supported by industry‑standard software. Your work will move from concept sketches and studies through to fabrication‑ready documentation, and into installed works on site. The role is based in Singapore and collaborates closely with our teams in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the US.
1. Concept Development
· Review project briefs, art narratives, context, and spatial requirements.
· Undertake art and cultural research (site, heritage, local artists, craft traditions) to inform concept direction.
· Generate sketches, studies, and compositional explorations that translate abstract ideas into clear, visual directions.
· Interpret the curatorial strategy in partnership with curators and consultants.
· Build beautiful, well‑structured presentations (story, intent, palette, references) that communicate ideas to clients and internal teams.
· Prepare lookbooks and narrative boards aligned to brief, brand, and budget.
2. Artwork Development & Specification
· Work closely with curators, interior designers, architects, art consultants, and suppliers to maintain design intent and technical feasibility.
· Evolve selected concepts into developed artwork proposals with scale, placement, and material direction.
· Apply realistic materiality and finishes (e.g., bronze, resin, acrylic, fabric, metal, timber, mixed media) based on production feasibility.
· Produce contextual visuals to show artwork intent in situ (lobby, F&B, spa, guestroom)—using 2D visualisation as primary, with light 3D support where helpful.
3. Technical & Fabrication Readiness
· Compile artwork packages: dimensions, material references, colour/finish schedules, mounting methods, and production notes.
· Prepare clean, production‑ready files for prototyping (e.g., CNC/laser, 3D print tests) when required—collaborating with fabricators on tolerances and fixings.
· Support IP, credits, and permissions documentation as needed.
· Participate in sample reviews, mock‑ups, and approvals, documenting outcomes and next steps.
· Liaise with fabricators during production and finishing, resolving technical queries quickly and maintaining quality standards.
· Contribute to QA/QC checks and update packages as details are refined.
· Support installation planning (sequencing, placement, coordination) and provide guidance on framing and lighting where relevant.
· Assist with as‑built documentation and handover materials (care/maintenance, conservation notes).
What We’re Looking For (fine‑art focused, tech‑enabled)
· Strong fine‑art foundation: drawing, composition, material exploration, studio craftsmanship.
· Clear, confident visual storytelling through presentations, lookbooks, and narrative boards.
· Ability to understand complex briefs and collaborate well with curators and design teams.
· Material literacy across metals, resins, textiles, timber, paper‑based and mixed‑media processes.
· Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
· Organised, reliable, and able to manage multiple deadlines across global time zones.
Qualifications & Technical Proficiency
· Degree in Fine Art, Graphic Design, or related field.
· 1+ year of experience in a related role (open to early‑career applicants).
· English fluency; additional languages a plus.
· Strong skills in Adobe Photoshop and InDesign for texturing, materials, and composition.
· Willingness to learn basic CAD/light 3D for scale and placement (no game‑engine experience required).
· Ability to prepare clean production files for CNC/laser/3D‑print workflows.
